PHUN
Area of Interaction: Human Ingenuity
Unit Questions: How can I learn from trial and error, so I can improve my situation?
Requirements:
  1. Take the test on Skyward. This is due Wednesday. Create a new page on your wiki and name it "PHUN".
  2. Spend one day investigating PHUN.
  3. Spend 5 days creating a Rube Goldberg, cartoon, game etc.
  4. Your project should be about 15 minutes. I will negotiate on the time, but you need to prove to me that your project is amazing! I will mainly be checking your effort and and time that you put into this.
  5. Be creative.
  6. Take at least 4 screen shots and upload them to this page. Look at the rubric below, so you understand how you will be graded.
  7. Have "PHUN" - ha, ha!

STEP 1: INVESTIGATE
a. Identify the Problem:
1. How does the Design Cycle apply to your project, life, and society?
a. Project:It will make our project better if we have a good design
b. Life (Think future jobs): The design cycle will help me plan out future projects and help accomplish goals in our life
c. Society: If you use the design cycle to plan help improve a society then it will be better than if you didn't plan at all.
2. Identify the problem:
b. Develop the Design Brief:
3. What is PHUN? Phun is a computer program that simulates simple physics
4. How does PHUN teach you about physics? It simulates simple physics so that you can explore physics
5. Experiment with PHUN for at least 20 minutes.
c. Formulate a Design Specification - The Design Brief Continued:
6. List all the requirements you must meet to create the Rube Goldberg Machine: 15 min. and 4 screen shots
7. How will you be graded on this assignment? Investigate, attitude, creativity, project, pictures, answering unit question
8. What did you learn about PHUN? There are many features that cannot be explored in this short period of time, like anti-gravity, catapults, water, ect.
9. Are you going to create a Rube Goldberg, cartoon, or game? Explain your idea: Rube Goldberg, we will have a chain of reactions that will knock over an object.
STEP 2: ATTITUDE
10. Were you motivated and independent? yes
11. Were you respectful during the entire unit? yes
12. Did you work the entire time? no
13. Were you ever a pain in the fanny to Bradfield or other students? no
14. Were you a whiny-baby? no

Answer the unit question:
11. How can I learn from trial and error, so I can improve my situation? (Think about mistakes you made while working on your PHUN project. How did making mistakes help you improve your project? How can making mistakes in your life actually improve your life? If you make a mistake, and you don't learn from it what is the point of making it? Answer this question with complete sentences and in a paragraph.)
Sometimes in life you have to just keep experimenting until you get the outcome you want. When using Phun it was difficult understanding all of the features, but through trial and error we figured out most of them. In order to actually create the Rube Goldberg we had to make small changes along the way until it was just right. By making the mistakes we learned how to fix them so that we don't make the same mistake in the future.

  • Our Phun didn't save the last day so we did not have time to take screen shots and meet the time requirement. You saw our Phun on the last day, and you gave us an A :D
